Peter Steinberg is Professor of Biology at The University of New South Wales and Visiting Professor at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. From 2009 -2020 he was the inaugural Director and CEO of the Sydney Institute of Marine Science. He has 30+ years of experience in a diversity of biological and ecological fields, from environmental biotechnology to coastal ecology and restoration.
He has been a Fulbright Scholar, a Queen Elizabeth II Fellow, CEO of an ASX listed biotechnology company, a Head of School at UNSW and director of major research centres. He has over 220 publications and 10 patents, including publications in Science, Nature, PNAS and other leading journals; these have been cited over 20, 000 times for an H-index of 76. He has raised over $65M in research funding. In 2017 the Australian Marine Science Association awarded him their Silver Jubilee Award for outstanding contributions to marine science.
